FOUR SANDY SIXTH GRADERS WIN PRESIDENT’S ENVIRONMENTAL YOUTH AWARD

Sandy, Utah--Four Sandy sixth-grade students recently solved the “Miracle on the Hudson” airplane bird strike problem, and will be recognized with the President’s Environmental Youth Award.

BEEHIVE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY ACADEMY STUDENTS WIN THIRD PLACE IN THE ROBOT GAME COMPETITION AT THE FIRST LEGO LEAGUE COMPETITION WORLD FESTIVAL IN HOUSTON 

Houston, Texas—A team of students from the Utah charter school, Beehive Science and Technology Academy, captured a third-place award in the robot game at the FIRST LEGO League Competition held this past weekend in Houston, Texas.  To qualify for Houston competition, Beehive’s team, named Beehive Robotics, took first place in the robot game and won the first-place Champions Award at a competition held Feb. 11 at Weber State University in Ogden.

BEEHIVE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY ACADEMY SIXTH GRADERS BEAT OUT HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS AND SENIORS TO WIN AN AWARD AND $1,000 AT THE HIGH SCHOOL UTAH ENTREPRENEUR CHALLENGE

Sandy—Two sixth grade students from Beehive Science and Technology Academy have won a High School Utah Entrepreneur Challenge award during a competition held April 15.  Beehive’s Timothy Holt and Allison Drennen received a special exception to compete against high school juniors and seniors at the Challenge.  Holt and Drennen were the youngest students in the competition.  The sixth graders were given $1,000 and the Best Prototype Award for their project, Air Scare.

BEEHIVE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY ACADEMY STUDENTS HONORED BY NATIONAL CENTER FOR WOMEN AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Sandy, Utah—Beehive Science and Technology Academy students Kim Drennan and Bailey Ellis were given awards by the National Center for Women and Information Technology (NCWIT) during the last weekend in March.  Sahana Kargi was also presented with an honorable mention by the organization.  The students participated in NCWIT’s Aspirations in Computing competition.

Salt Lake City—Nine students from Beehive Science and Technology Academy were among the winners at this year’s Salt Lake Valley Science and Engineering Fair held March 21 through 23, with the awards ceremony on March 24.

Sandy, Utah—A Beehive Science and Technology Academy charter school ninth grade student, Cade Langsdon, has won first place in a graphic design contest sponsored by the Utah State Board of Education.  Langsdon’s two graphics will be used to help promote the Utah State Board of Education’s Business and Marketing, and Information Technology Education summer conference for Utah educators.

Sandy, Utah—A team of seven girls from Beehive Science and Technology Academy has won a 1st Place Silver Tier Award for the 2016-2017 CyberPatriot Youth Cyber Defense Competition.  Awards were broken down into Platinum, Gold and Silver categories.

UTAH FIFTH AND SIXTH GRADE STUDENTS CAN NOW REGISTER FOR THE 10TH ANNUAL MATHMATTERS CONTEST

Salt Lake City—Registration forms are now available for the 10th annual MathMatters Contest.  The competition, which will be held Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Beehive Science and Technology Academy (830 E. 9400 S. in Sandy), is open to all fifth and sixth grade students in Utah.  The contest is limited to the first 350 registrants.

Sandy, Utah—Beehive Science and Technology Academy Principal Hanifi Oguz has been selected as a 2016 Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction for “excellence in teaching and for the encouragement of the dedication to the academic success of students” by the National Society of High School Scholars.  (Claes Nobel is the founder of the National Society of High School Scholars.  He is also the grandnephew of Albert Nobel, founder of the Nobel prizes.)
