BEEHIVE SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY ACADEMY STUDENTS CAPTURE NATIONAL CENTER FOR WOMEN & INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AWARDS
Five students from Beehive Science & Technology were given awards from the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) on March 24 at the Instructure Canvas Headquarters in Salt Lake City.
Two Beehive students, Sahana Kargi and Trinity Mauer were presented with NCWIT Aspirations Awards (there were 15 total winners of this award). Beehive’s Nihal Kariparduc, Sanjana Kargi and Kaitlin Doddridge received Honorable Mention Awards (there were 16 total winners of this award).
The students participated in NCWIT’s Aspirations in Computing competition.
To apply for the awards, students were required to submit information online. According to NCWIT’s website, “Award recipients are selected based on their aptitude and aspirations in technology and computing; leadership ability; academic history; and plans for post-secondary education.” Students from Beehive competed against other students from Northern Utah (there was also a Southern Utah competition).
According to NCWIT’s website, “The NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing builds a talent pool for the growing technical workforce and helps academic and corporate organizations celebrate diversity in computing by honoring young women at the high-school level for their computing-related achievements and interests.”
According to the organization’s website, “NCWIT is a non-profit community of more than 1,100 universities, companies, non-profits, and government organizations nationwide working to increase girls’ and women’s meaningful participation in computing. NCWIT equips change leaders with resources for taking action in recruiting, retaining, and advancing women from K–12 and higher education through industry and entrepreneurial careers.”
