BEEHIVE SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY ACADEMY’S FIRST TECH CHALLENGE ROBOTICS TEAM AND FIRST LEGO LEAGUE COMPETITION TEAM SHINE AT CHAMPIONSHIPS HELD AT WEBER STATE UNIVERSITY

Beehive Science & Technology’s FIRST (an acronym for For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) LEGO League Competition teams and FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics team had strong showings at the state championships, both held at Weber State University.

 

     In the FIRST LEGO League Competition, Beehive’s Bionic Porcupines III took first place overall and won the Champions Award.  The team also won first place in the robot game.  This team will move on to represent Utah at the FIRST LEGO League World Festival in Houston April 18 through 21.

     Bionic Porcupines III team members are Allison Drennan, Timothy Holt, Kassie Holt,  Katie Drennan, Eric Snaufer and Carter Lechtenberg.  This team is coached by Mark Snaufer, Ben Holt and Annie Drennan.

      Beehive’s Plan Bee team took third place overall and garnered an invitation to represent Utah at the FIRST LEGO League Razorback Invitational to be held in Fayetteville, Ark. May 17 through 20.  Plan Bee also won the Overall Project Award.  The team’s top robot game score tied for third place.

     Team members on Plan Bee include Aiden Pasinsky, Arika Awan, Arien Barker, Becket Harris, Gretchen Harris, Maya Choate, Mohammed Hussain, Nicholas Jacob, Numair Hussein and Saee Ashtaputre.  Youth mentors for Plan Bee are Curtis Bock and Ayden McRae.  Coaches are Ed Eliason, Renae Mendenhall, Micaela Dansie and Anne Jacob.

     At the Weber State competition, out of the 48 championship teams competing (which were selected from over 280 Utah teams), three of the top four robot scores were from Beehive teams.

     Team Flash earned third place in the robot game at Weber State.  This team won the First Place Robot Performance Award the week before at a qualifying competition.  Team members are Xidis Minson, Elyxzia Minson and Mazzie Minson.  This team is coached by B.J. Minson.

    Minifigure Mayhem was also one of the teams representing Beehive at the Weber State competition.  Corbin Pederson from Beehive is among the team members.

     In the FIRST Tech Challenge, the Beehive Robotics team made it to the semifinals.  Out of the 36 elite teams (the best of the best teams from Utah and around the country), this team was among the top five scoring teams. 

     Team members on the Beehive Robotics team are: Zack Nelson, Trinity Mauer, Kaden Gordon, Jonah Ogden, Austin Grant, Moises Molina, Nathan Morgan, Zachary Maynard, Liam Poppleton, Gustav McGuire, Sam Gwynn, Peter Beale, Kennan Bell, and Aiden Lowe.  Coaches are Royd Nelson, Mike Gordon, Lorie Mauer and Tony Gwynn.
